Is there a Bread and Milk Apocalypse Heading Our Way?

When the weathermen predict snow in Upstate South Carolina, it's time to stock up on bread and milk like it's the apocalypse.

As a natural born southerner, I'm still not sure what we are supposed to do with bread and milk should we lose electricity, but I also don't want to be without it.

I asked some of our readers what they plan to stock up on beyond the bread and milk and here are some of our favorite answers...

-- "Forget the bread and milk... I'm stocking up on Chocolate and chips."

-- Bourbon, Tito's, along with other assorted beverages and snacks."

-- Food that can be quickly prepared and grilled outside.

and the two that rise to the top of the list....

a close second for --"booze and craft supplies"

and I am sure people will now be inquiring if this place is hiring anytime soon....

"few extra six packs from the free beer shelf at work"

Forget about venturing out - it's all about hunkering down and embracing the winter wonderland.

1.) Host a "Gourmet" Cocoa Bar: Don’t settle for a lukewarm mug of brown water. Elevate the experience by setting up a station with mini-marshmallows, crushed candy canes, a dusting of cinnamon, and a mountain of whipped cream. For an adult twist, a splash of peppermint schnapps or Irish cream transforms a simple drink into a decadent fireside companion.

2.) Build a Living Room Fortress: Why should kids have all the fun? Grab every duvet, throw pillow, and clothespin in the house to construct an architectural masterpiece. Drape blankets over the sofa and chairs to create a cavernous retreat. It’s the perfect place to nap, read, or hide from the reality of having to shovel the driveway later.

3.) The "Low-Stakes" Board Game Marathon: Dust off those boxes at the back of the closet. Whether it’s a cutthroat game of Monopoly or a nostalgic round of Candy Land, there is something uniquely cozy about the sound of dice hitting a table while the wind howls outside.

4.) Have a DIY Spa Retreat: The cold air is brutal on the skin. Use your indoor time to steam your face over a bowl of hot water with lemon or apply that charcoal mask you bought three years ago. Soaking in a tub with enough bubbles to reach your chin is the definitive way to thaw out your bones.

5.) Curate a "Snowed In" Cinema: Pick a trilogy—Lord of the RingsStar Wars, or even a marathon of cheesy 90s rom-coms—and commit. The key is to stay in your pajamas and ensure the popcorn bowl is never empty.

A snow day isn't just a weather event; it’s an invitation to slow down. Enjoy the stillness before the snow plow arrive!
